Respect for intellectual property

Rights holders can report material they believe infringes copyright. Complete notices help us identify and assess the exact listing or file promptly.

Copyright infringement notices

To submit a notice under the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3), send a written communication containing all of the following:

  1. A physical or electronic signature of a person authorised to act for the owner of the exclusive right allegedly infringed.
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or a representative list if one notice covers multiple works on the site.
  3. Identification of the material claimed to be infringing, plus information reasonably sufficient for us to locate it, including the exact Construction-Manual URL where possible.
  4. Your contact information, including your name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
  5. A good-faith statement that you believe the disputed use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
  6. An accuracy and authority statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are authorised to act for the owner.

Knowingly making a material misrepresentation may create liability under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f). Consider obtaining legal advice before submitting a notice.

Counter-notifications

If material you supplied was removed or disabled because of a mistake or misidentification, a counter-notification under 17 U.S.C. § 512(g)(3) should include:

  • Your signatureA physical or electronic signature.
  • The affected materialIdentify what was removed or disabled and where it appeared before removal.
  • A sworn good-faith statementState under penalty of perjury that you believe removal or disablement resulted from mistake or misidentification.
  • Jurisdiction and serviceProvide your name, address and telephone number; consent to the jurisdiction specified by § 512(g)(3); and state that you will accept service of process from the original complainant or their agent.
